Clients LOVE their see-says. Yes, those moments in commercial edits where you hear the announcer say something at the perfect moment when you see that very thing the announcer is talking about. It’s mostly used for product shots as a way to increase branding, but it can extend to all kinds of moments in any piece of video content, from cueing the category, to landing a clear product benefit. I get the obsession. There’s a widely-held comfort in nailing a proper see-say, and it’s no surprise that it’s the go-to “recommended optimization” for research companies. So, there was no way this store could have gone live without a nod to the see-say. This particular take on it was one that I blurted out to a client on set as I was heading back to the agency after doing the obligatory Creative Director drop-in. I don’t know where it came from. It just came out. I’m sure it was a result of our countless meeting discussions about the importance of the see-says – from initial presentations to research animatics, to director boards, to discussions in the pre-pro meeting. So it just seemed like the appropriate punctuation for the moment. And now, years later, it’s on a T-Shirt. For best results, if you notice someone reading your shirt, be sure to give them a properly-timed word-for-word voiceover of what they’re reading. You know… to optimize the potential for an increase in unaided awareness.
